Babylon the Great

Revelation 17 paints a picture of a harlot drunk with the blood of the holy ones and riding a wild beast. She has a name written on her forehead, a mystery, "Babylon the Great".  This term 'Babylon the Great' is spoken of often in the organisation of Jehovah's Witnesses and she is identified as 'the world empire of false religion."

Of course, we were taught that every other religion except ours was part of Babylon the Great.  Now I realise that the organisation of Jehovah's Witnesses is also part of this disgusting symbolic woman.

In Revelation 17 + 18 we see that the woman is completely destroyed. Wonderful! She is disgusting!

We know that the woman is a religious entity because REV 18:23 speaks of her 'spiritistic practices' and the woman is depicted as manipulating the political elements of the world which certainly applies to religion.

Further to these thoughts, I was thinking about the start of ancient Babylon as described in GEN 10 + 11. Nimrod was the founder and he organised people into a religious collective. He dictated what everyone believed in. It makes sense that the name 'Babylon the Great' describes what Nimrod did but on a greater scale. This would mean that any religious organisation where a person or group of persons elevate themselves like Nimrod and establish their own set of rules, constitute 'Babylon the Great'.  Just a thought.

It is a comfort to read the words of REV 18:20 speaking about her demise, "Be glad over her, O heaven, also you holy ones and you apostles and you prophets, because God has judicially exacted punishment for you from her!"

Our God is the God of justice!
